Educator, social engineer and digital storyteller Dr Julian O’Shea has amassed a huge digital following for his passion for Melbourne, sharing its untold stories and campaigning for a better city for us all.

Hear Julian speak with humanoid robot Sophia about her story, the design and rise of AI and how technology and robotics fits within our lives, now and into the future.

Sophia will be available to meet following the program and will be popping up around the museum throughout the day. See her full program below.

Dr Julian O'Shea

Dr Julian O'Shea is a lecturer at Monash University, award winning engineer, a designer and video storyteller, he's the host of the popular online series Unknown Melbourne. Julian is also the Founder and CEO of Unbound, an educational social enterprise that leads global learning programs around the world. He also leads the Vehicle for Change project at the Mobility Design Lab at Monash University. This project involves designing new forms of sustainable transport and vehicles, and conducing world-first journeys for public engagement. Julian is the Co-Director of the Wattle Fellowship an emerging leadership program at the University of Melbourne.

Hanson Robotics’ most advanced human-like robot, Sophia, personifies our dreams for the future of AI. As a unique combination of science, engineering, and artistry, Sophia is simultaneously a science fiction character depicting the future of AI and robotics, and a technology platform for advanced robotics and AI research.
