NCM explores the past, present and future technologies that connect us. Housed in a 1939 telephone exchange in Hawthorn, we sit between culture and industry, commissioning artists and technologists to experiment, take risks and rethink the digital systems shaping our lives.

Since opening in September 2024, we’ve built strong foundations in exhibitions, education, partnerships and community engagement. Now we’re entering our next phase of growth and building a new creative technology network in Australia. We’re looking for people who want to help shape it.

Who we are

We’re a small, multidisciplinary team with a lot of range. Among us are artists, technologists, producers and theatre-makers, alongside specialists in curation, conservation, collections, visual art, finance, business development and more. Collections Manager

Shape the future of Australia’s communication technology collection.

• Full-time, ongoing (part-time proposals considered)
• $90,000–$100,000 plus 12% superannuation
• Based in Dandenong South, with time at our Hawthorn museum
• Flexible working arrangements available

You’ll lead the care, research and development of a collection covering more than 150 years of Australian telecommunications history. You’ll manage our Collections team through the next stage of our collection relocation, and work with leadership and curatorial staff on a collecting strategy for a world-class collection.

You’ll bring

• Experience managing complex technology collections in a museum or gallery
• Strong knowledge of collection care, risk management and OH&S, including hazardous materials
• Proven leadership of teams, budgets and projects
• An interest in new approaches to digital cultural heritage, research and creative partnerships

Education Coordinator

Spark curiosity in the next generation of creators and technologists.

• Part-time 0.6 FTE (3 days a week), ongoing, with room to grow
• $85,000 pro-rata plus superannuation
• Based in Hawthorn, with occasional travel to schools
• Flexible working arrangements available

You’ll deliver school excursions, tours, workshops and holiday programs, and create new resources based on your own skills. Our education program is growing, and this role has room to grow too.

You’ll bring

• At least two years’ experience running education programs or classes for kids
• STEAM skills such as coding, robotics, electronics, engineering or 3D design
• Confidence leading tours and workshops for school groups
• A driver’s licence and a valid Working with Children Check or VIT registration

Front of House Supervisor

Be the first face visitors see at one of Melbourne’s newest destinations.

• Casual, ongoing
• $33.38–$36.25 per hour plus 12% superannuation and penalty rates
• Based at our museum in Hawthorn

You’ll welcome visitors, run ticketing, lead tours for groups of up to 15 people, and help deliver our events, including bar service and supervising volunteers.

You’ll bring

• Warm, confident communication and a love of great customer service
• Experience in ticketing, events and bar service
• Calm judgement in emergencies and confidence working independently
• A Working with Children Check, RSA and First Aid certificate, or willingness to get them
