We are excited to announce that NCM is now open for school excursions!

Located in Hawthorn, just next to Glenferrie Station, NCM is an easily accessible destination for school visits.

We offer teachers a free pass to visit our space before excursions, available from Wednesday to Sunday, to help plan your visit.

Excursion options and pricing

We offer three types of excursions tailored to different needs:

Self-guided Visit

$10 per student (for groups of 20+ students) with free admission for teachers or assistants.

$12 per student (for groups under 20 students) with free admission for teachers or assistants.

Guided Tour with Our Curators

An additional $150 to the above prices.

Swinburne PrimeSCI! Workshops

Excursions with workshops, tied to our Exhibitions and Programs. Starting Term 1, 2025. Pricing details will be confirmed soon. For more information, please see the PrimeSCI! section below.

PrimeSCI! Science Education Workshops

The National Communication Museum, in partnership with Swinburne University of Technology (PrimeSCI!), is launching an innovative STEAM curriculum-linked program.

Exhibition tours and hands-on workshops are open for booking with programs for Years 5-6 and Years 7-8 commencing from February 2025.

The Education Workshops will include demonstrations and hands-on activities from Learning Areas including Physics, Digital Technologies, Science and History. Learn about our current workshops below: Year 5/6: Electric Pathways – From Circuits to Communication

Students explore the fundamentals of circuits and their role in communication. Through hands-on activities, they’ll build a working circuit and send messages using Morse code.

Curriculum links: Physical Sciences (VC2S6U08, VC2S6U09)

Year 7/8: Decoding the Airwaves – Radio Communication with Micro:bit

Students dive into radio waves, encryption, and coding with Micro:bit. They’ll send and receive messages while limiting frequencies to keep communications private.
