Seminar Room • 14 Dec 2024 - 04 Jan 2025, 11am–3pm

Free with museum entry

Hide from the heat this summer at NCM with specially curated screenings of the weird, wonderful and intriguing treasures hidden in our archives.

Learn how a 1962 telephone works and see the Speaking Clock get assembled with the best BBC accents this side of the Atlantic. Watch retro telecommunication commercials that make you cringe (or admire) fashion choices and consider how our understandings of the world have grown. Admire the Research Labs tech’s experiments and the creation of “Dr Lightning” in the name of science. Discover the phonebook’s origin story and revel in the cutting edge 90’s technology that turned the pages electronic.

Make sure to keep an eye out for some of our museum objects hidden in the footage and see our tech in action.
