What do an undertaker and a Scottish-Canadian inventor have in common? Learn how both developed technology advancements that resulted in the telecommunication network we use today.

Join a volunteer tour guide and explore what was a historic exchange building. Learn about the evolution of the telephone and exchange equipment and the communities that used them.

Perfect for visitors looking for an in-depth experience, this tour includes a demonstration on how a phone call is processed through an automatic step by step exchange.

About your guide

David Grigg

David Grigg is a retired software developer who worked in the field of interactive multimedia for over two decades. During the 1980s he also worked in public relations and as a journalist and sub-editor, much of this time in the Publications Office of Telecom Australia, where his role was to develop and write publications for students about telecommunications technology. David has long been involved in the science fiction fan community, publishing fanzines and helping organise science fiction conventions, eventually becoming Chairman of the 43rd World Science Fiction Convention held in Melbourne in 1985. He is also a published author, with one novel and many short stories to his credit. He is fascinated by science and technology and enjoys talking about them to others.
