FRIEND explores the relationship between human and machine.
Launching with a full afternoon of programming covering deep ideas, new relationships and human augmentation, NCM invites you to visit FRIEND and consider how machines can become companions, collaborators, and even an extension of ourselves.
Hear a diverse range of experts consider how a new humanity can be empowered by technology in our opening panel discussion. Get face to face with fellow deep nerds including curators, artists, machines and fellow visitors to discover what a friend can be in Fast Friends, a platonic speed dating inspired event. And don't miss the unique chance to hear about the development of the wearable robotics, JIZAI ARMS, and see them demonstrated by the Japanese engineers themselves.
All programs are free with museum entry. Make sure to show up early so you don't miss out on a spot.

Panel Discussion | Robots Make Us Better | 12pm–1pm
Friends teach us how to be better, more caring, empathetic....Friends aren't always human. How do robotics and technology help humans tap into our sense of empathy and grow a deeper connection with our surrounding world? This panel discussion brings together visiting FRIEND artists, developers and academics to consider this question.

Fast Friends | 1.30pm–3pm
NCM is all about connection, and we can’t wait to do some platonic matchmaking in a speed dating inspired event with a FRIEND twist. Date a machine, a human, a chat bot, another visitor, an artist, a curator, an exhibition!

Demonstration & Talk | JIZAI ARMS | 4pm–4.45pm
In an exclusive NCM event, see the remarkable JIZAI ARMS worn and activated by the developers & engineers visiting from Japan. Before the demonstration, hear directly from the JIZAI ARMS project collaborators about the JIZAI Body Project and the development of the JIZAI ARMS. One fortunate NCM visitor will have the opportunity to try the JIZAI ARMS themselves.
