Free with museum entry
National Science Week kicks off at NCM this month, and to celebrate, all kids under 16 get free entry between August 13 - 17!
With this year’s theme being ‘Decoding the Universe’, there’s plenty happening at NCM that delves into the topic. Discover the fun and easy-to-understand side of quantum physics (yes, it exists!), settle in for quantum storytime, and try your hand at coding a real robot in our Kid’s Hub.
You don’t need to be a scientist to learn about quantum - even babies can do it! Join Dr. Chris Ferrie, quantum physicist and author of the acclaimed ‘Baby University’ books, on a trip through the weird, tiny and always surprising world of quantum. From budding young scientists to curious parents, Quantum Storytime is perfect for anyone that wants to know that little bit more about how the world works.

Visit our Kids Hub during Science Week to try our MatataStudio Coding activity. Kids are introduced to a screen-free way to learn fundamental coding principles to control a robot through a range of challenges, from directing it through obstacles to creating drawings using angles.

Does hearing the word 'quantum' make you want to crumple into a heap of existential confusion? Don’t worry, NCM is here to help you and whisper soothing sounds when the Quantum Scaries hit. We have gathered experts from across Melbourne to guide you through an afternoon explaining the ins and outs of quantum physics in a way that will have you nodding along and actually understanding what's happening. And yes, there’ll be a bar.
