Content Creation: Communicating Meaning

Year Level: 7 – 10
Duration: All-day workshop (adaptable to half day, with supporting in-class activities)
Maximum number of students: 30 per session
Price: $550 + gst

Lesson Summary
This workshop immerses students in the evolving world of media, from social platforms to content creation, offering real-world insights into how stories are shared today.

Students will explore the museum at the start of the visit to help brainstorm ideas for a gamified filming exercise in teams, based on a random subject and genre they’re given.

With a time limit, they are tasked with brainstorming scenes, choosing appropriate filming locations, building scripts and rehearsing. After the initial timed section, they will review their filming plan with the class and NCM staff for feedback.

Student groups will then be given a second timed exercise of filming their planned sections. The filming process will use students’ phones to show that they have everything they need already to be content creators. Teams will consist of actors, directors and camera operators that will alternate across scenes to give students opportunities to explore different roles.

The day will conclude with an editing section, with a viewing of all the group creations at the end of the day.
